He points out that the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa, and even his former club Everton boast superior infrastructure that far exceeds what is found at Carrington.

The criticism comes despite United’s ambitious claims of fostering a “positive culture to support future success” through their planned upgrade. Wyness highlights the growing demands of players for high-quality environments and views the £50 million expenditure as a basic requirement to meet current standards rather than an innovative leap forward.
Carrington’s Potential Transformation
Despite his critical stance, Wyness acknowledges the potential of the investment to act as a “breath of fresh air” if executed correctly. With architecture firm Foster + Partners at the helm, the project is set to commence immediately and span the 2024-25 season. Funded in part by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s $300 million infrastructure commitment, the renovation could strip away longstanding complaints about the training ground used by players and managers alike.
