ANDRE ONANA is set to join Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain this summer, with the Blues willing to splash £27million on the Ajax star, according to reports.
Frank Lampard has been desperate to land a new goalkeeper after Kepa Arrizabalaga struggled to justify his world-record £71.6million price-tag.
The Chelsea chief even dumped him to the bench between January and February, putting veteran stopper Willy Caballero between the sticks for six games.
And now Lampard is set to lock horns with Ligue 1 champions PSG in the race to land in-demand Ajax star Onana, say the Daily Mail.
However, it won’t be too easy for either club to land Onana, 24, this summer.
The Cameroon international still has two years left on his current deal in Amsterdam.
Onana is also said to be happy to stay at the club for at least another season – wary of the effect of coronavirus on the transfer market.
The former Barcelona youth product has been an integral part of an exciting Ajax side in recent seasons – playing a huge role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
Despite his success, Onana did hint at quitting the club in April, saying: “Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy with Ajax and I am very grateful to the club.
“It was five great years here, but now my time has come to take a step.
“I don’t yet know what will happen, but my ambitions and agreements are clear.”
Back in West London Lampard is wasting no time in getting his side ready for the 2019-20 season – having missed out on the luxury of making new signings last summer with the club under a transfer ban.
Chelsea have already signed Hakim Ziyech – also from Ajax – as well as Timo Werner.
Lampard is also chasing Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz as he aims to add to his young spine of stars at Stamford Bridge.
In goal, Roman Burki is another option being considered by the Blues.
