Arsenal legend Tony Adams slams club board including Edu and Raul Sanllehi as ‘out of their depths’ in huge rant

ARSENAL legend Tony Adams has slammed the club’s transfer chiefs Edu and Raul Sanllehi as totally “out of their depth”.

The Gunners icon, 53, tore into the pair in an impassioned plea on TalkSPORT in which he begged the club to sort out their situation.

Arsenal legend Adams urged the club to change their transfer policy and said the current chiefs are ‘out of their depth’

Sanllehi, left, and Edu were accused of ‘blowing up’ Arsenal’s famed scouting network by Adams

Adams said the current style of recruitment is not in Arsenal’s DNA and that former chief scout Steve Rowley’s famed network had been “blown up”.

Speaking to Alan Brazil and former Arsenal team-mate Ray Parlour, Adams said: “My fundamental issue is with recruitment.

“I think the club is going through such a recruitment issue at the moment and it’s not relying on agents.

“Thats not the way to go. It’s not arsenal DNA I’m afraid. I don’t like it. I’ve got to say it publicly.

“Steve Rowley – 40 years to build that scouting network, it did brilliantly, got the best players from around the world.

“And it’s just been blown up.

“Edu, I love him, he’s a beautiful man, it’s not personal, but he has no experience of building European squads.

“Even Raul Sanllehi, came from Barcelona, all the money in the world, it don’t look like he’s going to get money.

“Those people are out of their depth, I’m sorry.

“You need to build a fantastic squad that challenges for the league and it hurts.”

Arsenal have seemed at odds with themselves in recent weeks, giving David Luiz a new contract despite his horrendous errors at the back.

And the shadow of Mesut Ozil – yet to play since the coronavirus restart and on £350,000-a-week – grows ever larger.

William Saliba will train with the side this summer but it remains to be seen who else will come in with funds slashed due to the global pandemic.

Adams was asked if he was ever offered a route back to Arsenal in a role that would help recruitment and coaching.

He said he would have made a good partner with ex-boss Arsene Wenger – but that the Frenchman didn’t want him.

Adams said: “I don’t think Arsene wanted me anywhere near the place. I tried on several occasions to lend my services.

“I took it as a compliment that he didn’t want me there.

“In 2010/11 there was a hell of a lot of pressure I dont think he needed the previous captain.

“We would have made a good partnership if he swallowed a little bit of his pride.

“I could have filled the gaps in his character but it wasn’t meant to be.”
