Arsenal Legend Urges Arteta to Sign Marcus Thuram to Replace Jesus

  • Arsenal legend Ray Parlor has urged Mikel Arteta to sign France striker Marcus Thuram as Jesus’ replacement
  • Gabriel Jesús will be out for months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury he suffered at the World Cup.
  • Arteta has Eddie Nketiah to lead the line but will want cover to give the young striker rest and competition

Gabriel Jesus’ injury on international duty with Brazil puts Arsenal in a difficult position and disrupts their transfer plans for the winter window.

The Gunners were interested in strengthening on the wings and in defensive midfield, but now a striker is needed, and an Arsenal legend has recommended one.

Cristiano Ronaldo is being linked with many clubs after Manchester United terminated his contract although he has not decided on his next move.

Parlor has advised Arteta not to have a fifth Ballon d’Or on his consideration list, but should instead go for France and Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram.

Parlor prefers Thuram to Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is increasingly unlikely to stay in Europe, but if he does, Parlor advised Arsenal to look away in an interview with SportsLen, as quoted by Football London.

”I just don’t think he’s going to work hard enough. I know he scores the goals, but Ronaldo will not bring the energy of Jesus in any way. He is still a very good player, but will he fit into Arsenal’s system as he plays now? I don’t see it,” he said.

Parlour’s objection to Ronaldo is based on the 37-year-old’s style of play, so he recommends 25-year-old Marcus Thuram.

“I know Marcus Thuram at Borussia Monchengladbach could be available because his contract is up at the end of the year. I know Edu was looking for a full-back/forward when I spoke to him in pre-season. He wanted a winger who could go through in front of someone and offer something a little different than what they have now,” he added.

Xhaka backs Nketiah to step up

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka would have other ideas than Ray Parlour, who is backing Nketiah to step up in Jesus’ absence, as previously reported. Sports Brief.

He believes Nketiah has what it takes to effectively replace the injured Brazilian and the whole team will work to get the best out of him.

Arsenal’s signing of a new striker does not necessarily represent a lack of confidence in Nketiah, but rather a cover for fatigue, loss of form or possible injury.
