Darren Bent insists that Brentford stars Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins would be “great signings” for Aston Villa this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and England striker believes Dean Smith will be among a host of managers in the hunt to prise the pair away from the Championship outfit.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, the Villans have set their sights on signing the two attacking stars following the Bees’ play-off disappointment against Fulham.
It is understood that the pair could cost a combined total of around £50million after their dazzling performances in the Championship last season.
Bent believes that a move to Villa Park could be on the cards for the Brentford duo but admits there is going to be some fierce competition for the captures.
Bent told Football Insider: “That’s two big fees for two very, very good players and for me, yeah, I can see that happening, Dean Smith knows these players very, very well.

“They’ve got a manager there who knows them well so for me, two great signings but I don’t think Villa are going to be the only team in for those two, or at least one of those two.
“Benrahma, he’s a top player, his form since lockdown was superb. I know the last couple of games he wasn’t as effective but before that, he was the reason they were in contention.”
Benrahma, who spent most of last season playing as a left-winger, scored 17 goals and contributed 10 assists on the way to the play-off final.
Watkins meanwhile netted 26 times as he led the line for manager Thomas Franks.
In other Aston Villa news, a Football Insider pundit has revealed who he thinks are the favourites to sign the Brentford pair.
