At this point, it is well established that Barcelona will enter the January market for a new right back. The position is seen as an area that needs urgent reinforcements following the failures of summer signing Héctor Bellerin.
A number of names including Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot, Villarreal’s Juan Foyth and Bayern Munich ace Benjamin Pavard have been linked with a move to the Spotify Camp Nou.
Another player on Barcelona’s radar is Borussia Dortmund defender Thomas Meunier, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 31-year-old Belgian international has been on Barcelona’s agenda for some time, and the club also tried to sign him last January, only for Dortmund to block the transfer. Meunier has since expressed his dismay at not getting the move he wanted.
There had also been links in the summer, but nothing came of it. However, Barça once again have Meunier on the agenda for the winter window.
But the La Liga leaders are not the only ones chasing the former PSG right-back. According to the report, Meunier is also a target for Premier League heavyweights Manchester United, while Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus are also interested.
The report indicates that the aforementioned English and Italian clubs have already submitted proposals for the 31-year-old, while adding that two other London sides are keen on the right-back.
This development does not bode well for Barcelona, which is currently in a difficult economic situation. It is stated that the sports staff of the Catalan training has been in contact with Meunier but the financial Fair Play situation has made things difficult.
With his Dortmund contract set to expire in 18 months, Meunier is expected to be available for a cut price in January. And the report points out that the right-back has prioritized the move to Camp Nou.
However, since Barcelona have yet to make a move, Meunier will start listening to offers from other clubs on the table. It puts the Blaugrana in a complicated situation that could make them lose the capture of Meunier once again.
