In five years as the Red Devils’ number two, he has made just 59 appearances in total.
De Gea made no more howlers against West Ham but did little to show Solskjaer is right to back him
It was more than two years ago – in May 2018 – when the Argentine last started in the league and that only made it seven overall.

But the 33-year-old must have thought his big chance was coming after David De Gea’s latest horror show at the weekend.
In the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, some blamed the Spaniard for all three Blues goals – with the second particularly disastrous.
Those came hot on the heels of blunders against Tottenham and Bournemouth in the weeks since the top flight re-started.
Many expected Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to axe his £375,000 per week top earner for the final two matches of the season.
But instead the manager told De Gea at training on Monday that he still had confidence in him – and sure enough opted to throw him back in against the Hammers.
Many consider Romero to be the best back up keeper in the business – but does he put enough pressure on de Gea?
De Gea did let in a penalty but there was a pleasing lack of howlers
After playing his 400th game for United earlier this month, the Spain international said nonchalantly he was aiming for 400 more.
He knows he is the number one and – for now at least – nothing will change that, although he won’t have it all his own way if and when Dean Henderson returns to Old Trafford.
For the first half an hour or so last night, Solskjaer could have put himself in goal and it wouldn’t have mattered.
Perhaps that’s why the manager chose to throw him back in – because he did not anticipate a busy night.
De Gea made a save from Victor Lindelof’s back header under pressure from Michail Antonio.
His penalty record is not great and he went the wrong way for Antonio’s penalty which gave the Hammers a half-time lead.
And after the break he acrobatically tipped over a deflected shot from Jarod Bowen – although it was a save you would have expected him to make.
It was largely a straight-forward night for De Gea. He can expect to be much busier in the winner takes all showdown with Leicester on Sunday.
Solskjaer may still have confidence in him – but how many United fans would say the same?
