BRENTFORD boss Thomas Frank left Sky Sports’ pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville cracking up – after labelling Griffin Park as an’old, s****y stadium’ on live TV.
The Bees chief joined the Sky Sports team to talk about the Championship club’s new state-of-the-art £71million 17,500-seater stadium.
The club will play its last game at its 116-year-old Griffin Park ground if the season is completed.
Brentford will play in their new ground next season.
But Frank is clearly not too bothered about losing the old stadium, a favourite with fans as it has a boozer on each corner.
If the Championship is not completed due to the coronavirus, then the last game at Griffin Park would have already been played.
That means fans will be unable to say goodbye to the historic West London venue.
The Dane told Neville and Carragher on the Sky Sports Football Show: “All our fantastic fans and the staff who have been working at the club for many many years would actually like to say goodbye to Griffin Park, the iconic English stadium.
“It smells of football there .
“It’s an old and it’s a s***** stadium but we love it.
“It’s going to be difficult to say goodbye to that.”
Neville and Carragher were then cracking up at this description but it forced red-faced host Scott Minto to apologise.
On Twitter, fans were less than impressed.
One said: “Did Brentfords manager seriously call Griffin Park a s***** stadium on the football show.”
Another said: “#BrenfordFC Coach #ThomasFrank having a joke this morning on #SkySports
TW*Casuals posted: “Won’t be many grounds left like Griffin Park once we move stadiums that’s for sure.”
Been fans Nick posted: “To all #BrentfordFC fans that are appalled by Frank calling GP a s***** stadium… get over it. He’s bang on. Griffin Park is an absolute s*** hole of a football stadium and that is why we love it. Get a grip ffs”
While rival fan, Kevin Fitzpatrick, said: “Wow. We enjoyed our away day at Griffin ParK. Clearly the Brentford FC manager does not feel the same way.”
Brentford could host the play-off semi-final at Griffin Park – if the season resumes.
They are fourth in the table with a healthy five-point cushion over the teams outside the play-off places.
Wow. We enjoyed our away day at Griffin Park
Clearly the #BrentfordFC manager doesn’t feel the same way
