Cardiff 2 Leeds 0: Junior Hoilett and Robert Glatzel strikes sink Marcelo Bielsa’s men as errors cost Whites

GOALS from Junior Hoilett and substitute Robert Glatzel punished Leeds United and strengthened Cardiff City’s burgeoning play-off ambitions.

The visitors dominated much of the game, but the Bluebirds stayed resolute in the midst of wave after wave of Leeds attacks.

Sub Robert Glatzel made the points safe in the second half

Things swung in the 35th minute, when Kalvin Phillips’ scuffed square pass in the middle of the field fell straight to Hoilett who raced through before firing a left-footed drive past Illan Meslier.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side thought they’d equalised when Jack Harrison swept Tyler Roberts’ centre goalwards… but were denied by Patrick Bamford getting in the way of his own player’s effort on the line.

Glatzel made the points safe in the 71st minute when this time Liam Cooper was guilty of a slack pass, with the German’s touch and volley unerring despite having just come on.

The result sees Leeds stay behind West Bromwich Albion on goal difference at the top of the table, while Cardiff clamber above rivals Swansea and up to seventh.
