Celtic have failed in a bid to sign teenage striker Veron Parkes after his exit from West Ham, Football Insider understands.
The Scottish giants were among a number of clubs across Europe pursuing the forward after this site broke the news in May he had rejected the Hammers’ offer of a professional contract.
But they have been been beaten by Dutch side Fortuna Sittard to the signature of the 18-year-old centre-forward.
The Eredivisie outfit announced the capture of Parkes earlier today and added on their official website that he had “walked out” of a contract at the London Stadium.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club had offered a contract to the teenager after he set his sights on a move to a team where there was a realistic pathway to senior football.
Parkes was very attracted to the possibility of moving to Parkhead and noted the huge impact made by Jeremie Frimpong since he quit Man City last summer to join Celtic on a four-year contract.
