Celtic news: Alan Hutton reacts as Barry Douglas linked to move

Alan Hutton believes Barry Douglas would be a “very good” signing for Celtic and provide much needed competition at left back.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, Hutton believes the Leeds player should be brought in to replace Boli Bolingoli.

Bolingoli was expected to be sold even before his trip to Spain that caused Celtic to have two Scottish Premiership games postponed.

Douglas is high up on Neil Lennon’s shortlist if they are able to offload Bolingoli, according to Sky Sports.

Asked by Football Insider whether Douglas would be a good fit for Celtic, Hutton said: “I think that would be a good option.

“That’s the type of player that could push Greg Taylor so they could have the same competition at left back that they do at right back.

“At Wolves he was excellent and I found it strange that he left. Obviously at Leeds it’s not quite worked out as he would’ve thought.

“He’s quality going forward with his crossing I think he’s a very good player.

“If Celtic could get him it would be a very good signing and provide really good competition on the left hand side.”

Taylor has started all four of Celtic’s games this season and netted his first goal for the Hoops in their 6-0 win over KR Reykjavik in the Champions League.

He signed for the club last summer from Kilmarnock.

Douglas joined Leeds United two summers ago from Wolves.

The 30-year-old has played 44 games for the Whites without scoring a goal.

However, last season Douglas only started six games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The Scottish international was a member of the Wolves squad that won the Championship in 2017/18.
