Alex Bruce insists it would be “harsh” of Neil Lennon to axe Scott Bain from the Celtic starting XI after the win over Hamilton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Kilmarnock defender admits the arrival of Vasilios Barkas could see the shot-stopper drop out of the side for the visit to Kilmarnock.
The 28-year-old started Sunday’s 5-1 win at Parkhead despite the signing of the Greek international Vasilios Barkas last week.
The Scotland international battled it out with Craig Gordon to be Lennon’s number two last season as Fraser Forster established himself as the manager’s first-choice keeper.
Bruce believes that Bain probably deserves another start after the Hoops’ dominant display but admits the former Dundee star could be forced to play a squad role at Parkhead.
Bruce told Football Insider: “We don’t know what Lenny will do but it’s harsh to drop someone who’s just had a great start to the season and won so convincingly.

“But they have just signed a new goalkeeper so he could – it will be harsh on him, however, whenever he’s called upon, Lenny might call upon him sporadically throughout the season, you never know what is around the corner.”
Bain, who joined the Hoops on an initial loan deal back in 2018, has a total of 47 appearances under his belt for the club to date.
However, he featured just eight times across all competitions last season as injury and the form of Forster limited his game time.
In other Celtic news, Alan Hutton has been left blown away by his first glimpse of an Ibrox talent.
