Celtic news: Hutton – Lennon 'over the moon' after CL qualifier win

Neil Lennon will be “over the moon” with the 6-0 win over KR Reykjavik after a “difficult few weeks” for Celtic, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the comprehensive victory was exactly the confidence boost the Parkhead dressing room needed.

Boli Bolingoli’s breach of health and safety protocols saw two of the Hoops’ Premiership games suspended and let Rangers open up a gap at the top of the table.

Celtic returned to action with their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday and a brace from Mohamed Elyounoussi helped Lennon’s men to a comfortable win over Reykjavik.

Hutton believes that the European clash would have been a big confidence boost for the squad after a testing start to the 2020/21 season.

Hutton told Football Insider: “He’ll (Lennon) be over the moon. It’s been a difficult few weeks for them with the Bolingoli incident and things, it’s not been ideal.

“Rangers opening up a gap in the league, again, it’s not ideal so to get back to business and not only that, to score six goals, a clean sheet, 90 minutes in the legs of some of the players – I think it’s an ideal reaction, especially for the dressing room.

“Lennon must be over the moon with a great performance.”

As well as Elyounoussi, Odsonne Edouard, Greg Taylor and Christopher Jullien got themselves on the scoresheet on Tuesday.

The Bhoys’ next game is set to see them take on Dundee United away from home on Saturday.

In other Celtic news, Football Insider pundit has been blown away by a sighting that is “like a new signing”.
