Celtic news: Hutton wowed by Frimpong as he hails 'diamond'

Ex-Rangers fullback Alan Hutton admits that Celtic have “found a diamond” in right-back Jeremie Frimpong after his goalscoring display over Hamilton Academicals.

The 19-year-old scored his third Hoops goal in the Hoops’ 5-1 win last weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, Hutton feels Celtic will see the best of Frimpong this season.

He said: “As a full back to score a goal you’re absolutely over the moon.

“I think him and Greg Taylor played very well. They got forward well, attacked and were on the front foot the whole game.

“He’s so young, I think they’ve definitely found a diamond there. I think he’s going to step up this season and we’re going to see the best of him.

“I’m really looking forward to actually watching him and that’s funny, me as a Rangers fan, saying that.

“I like seeing that type of player, young and no fear. It’s just good to watch.”

After joining Celtic from Manchester City last summer on a free transfer, Frimpong ended his debut campaign in the official SPL team of the season.

Now, with 20 Hoops’ appearances under his belt, the Dutch under-20 international will be hoping to push on again this season as Celtic hunt for their tenth consecutive Scottish title.

In other news, Football Insider can reveal Celtic have submitted a fresh bid for a Premier League striker as permanent move on the cards.
