Celtic news: McAvennie predicts whether Edouard will return for Old Firm

Frank McAvennie has tipped Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard to play some part in their Old Firm clash against Rangers on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the legendary former Celtic striker delivered his verdict as the Frenchman looks set to end a period of self-isolation on Friday.

The 22-year-old tested positive for coronavirus last week while on international duty with France under-21s but is set to end his period of self-isolation on Thursday.

Edouard is not the only member of the Celtic squad to test positive for coronavirus while on international duty.

Israeli pair Nir Bitton and Hatem Elahmed have both tested positive for the virus and will miss this weekend’s game.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ryan Christie is self-isolating after coming into contact with former Hoops teammate Stuart Armstrong while on Scotland duty, who tested positive.

Asked by Football Insider whether the situation will have a major effect on Neil Lennon’s preparation, Mcavennie said: “Of course it is, but like we say it’s the world we live in today.

“I think Edouard might make it, I’ve got a feeling he might make it – if he’s clear on Thursday.

“He’s in isolation and if he tests negative he’ll be fine. Whether he starts or not remains to be seen.

“It’s a shame because I was looking at this one to get the fans back onside with him.

“He’s not really done much, whether it’s injury or whether he’s not been well.

“This is a game that he loves.”

Edouard has scored six goals and provided two assists in the nine games he has played against Rangers.

Across all competitions, the Frenchman has scored an impressive 66 goals and contributed 32 in 136 games for the Hoops.
