Celtic news: McAvennie urges Hoops to keep Ntcham

Frank McAvennie has claimed that he would be “disappointed” to see Olivier Ntcham leave Celtic this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former Hoops striker claimed that the 24-year-old is a “wonderful” player who deserves more of a chance in the starting XI at Parkhead.

According to a report from 90min,  a number of Premier League sides are keeping tabs on the Frenchman, including Southampton, Everton, and McAvennie’s former club, West Ham.

But the ex-Scotland international has made it clear that he would rather see Ntcham stay in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Listen, I rate him so highly.

“I’d love to see Celtic keep him and find a space for him because he’s a wonderful player. He compliments Scott Brown a lot. People say he’s Scott Brown’s replacement, but I think they play well together.

“It’s a great headache for Neil Lennon to have. I think once Ntcham comes in, he’ll be a mainstay. He can defend better than Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor, and he’s got a wide range of passing, which is a great attribute. He can hit it 40 or 50 yards.

“If he was to leave Celtic, and I hope he doesn’t because he’s a Celtic player at the moment and I like him, I’d be a little disappointed. I think he’s a wonderful player.”

Ntcham signed for the Bhoys from Manchester City for a fee of around £4.5 million in 2017.

Since then he has gone on to make 126 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals and assisting a further 11.

In other news, a Premier League star reveals he wants to join Celtic and there is now only one hurdle to sealing the deal.
