Noel Whelan has urged Celtic to sign Lyle Taylor over Steven Fletcher on a free transfer this summer.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he is stunned the 30-year-old is still available to sign.
Sky Sports report that the Hoops are interested in signing either of the free agents after their respective exits from Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.
However, Whelan believes that Taylor would bring more to the side and has urged Lennon to make a move to get him on board.
“You’re talking about two different styles of striker here – for me, I think Lyle Taylor is the more natural goalscorer,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“He’s got that pace that can hurt players in behind, more energy, I think Fletcher is a little bit more static, likes to play up against centre-halves and use his body and be aggressive.

“Lyle Taylor, we could see how important he was for Charlton last season, I’m very surprised a deal hasn’t been done already, quite frankly, but for me, I think Lyle Taylor (over Fletcher).
“I think pace and movement these days is key against centre-halves and I think Taylor is very intelligent, has got the pace and defenders would hate to mark someone like that.”
Taylor netted 11 goals for Charlton last season but refused to sign a short-term deal to stay until the end of the extended Championship season and did not feature following the restart.
Fletcher meanwhile scored 13 times for Wednesday but also turned down a new contract to become a free agent.
In other Celtic news, Darren Bent claims one attacker may have “killed his chances” of a move to Parkhead.
