Celtic plot late-window swoop for Well ace Turnbull

Celtic are lining up a £2million-plus bid for David Turnbull as they prepare to sell Tom Rogic, Football Insider has learned.

The Hoops are keeping close tabs on the Motherwell playmaker, 21, as they reignite their interest following last summer’s collapsed deal.

This comes as Celtic prepare to cash in on Tom Rogic amid interest from multiple clubs down south and overseas.

The Scottish champions have an unnamed offer of £3.6m from a club in Qatar and Brighton have also been credited with a multi-million pound interest.

The potential departure of the 27-year-old Australia international has not gone down well with fans who love his gamechanging skills and big-match appetite.

But he is a relatively high earner, has a mixed injury record and Celtic believe they are well covered in the attacking midfield positions.

The Hoops recruitment team and manager Neil Lennon are planning to sign Turnbull as a replacement for Rogic and nurture him a potential star.

The Hoops agreed a £3.25m deal with Motherwell for him last summer only to pull the plug at the eleventh hour after he failed a medical.

He then underwent knee surgery and Celtic are keeping close tabs on the Scotland Under-21 international as they get further evidence of his recovery.

He penned a 12-month extension to his Motherwell contract in March, but that will not preclude a move and merely serves to maintain the player’s value.

Turnbull blossomed in 2018-19, scoring 16 goals and supplying seven assists for Motherwell from just 34 matches in all competitions.

He has started all four of their SPL matches this season, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Hibernian.
