Chelsea beat Real Madrid in UEFA Women’s Champions League


Chelsea continued their perfect start to the 2022/23 UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage on Wednesday night.

Goals from midfielders Sophie Ingle and Erin Cuthbert saw Chelsea beat Real Madrid 2-0 at Kingsmeadow.

Chelsea have won 10 games in a row in all competitions since losing 2-1 to Liverpool in their opening game of the WSL season.

Wednesday’s goals came in the 67th and 76th minutes. They were just reward for Chelsea’s dominance.

Real Madrid were limited to just two shots on target as Chelsea kept another clean sheet.

The Blues have already played three and won three in Group A, scoring 11 goals and conceding zero.

They are now five points ahead of both Real and Paris Saint-Germain.

Real slipped below PSG on goal difference in Group A after the French side beat Albania’s Vllaznia 5-0 on Wednesday.

Strikes from Grace Geyoro, Ramona Bachmann, Sandy Baltimore and Magnaba Folquet, plus an own goal from Matilda Gjergji, led PSG to victory in Paris.

Group B only scored three goals on Wednesday. Two of them came at the Tre Fontane Stadium, where Wolfsburg drew Roma 1-1. This result left both sides with seven points.

Meanwhile, a last-minute goal from Maria Mikolajova was enough to see St. Polten beat Slavia Prague 1-0.

St. Polten remains on zero points. Slavia now have three.
