Crystal Palace are considering a move for Mainz frontman Jean-Philippe Mateta as Roy Hodgson seeks to bolster his goal-shy attack.
Christian Benteke, Michy Batshuayi and Jordan Ayew have only mustered four goals this season, which will be a major concern for Hodgson with his side also the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League last term.

Mateta, meanwhile, has scored ten goals in 17 games in all competitions for relegation-threatened Mainz, although he has failed to find the net in his last eight appearances.
The 23-year-old, who joined the German side from Lyon in 2018, currently has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.
Speaking earlier this month, Mainz’s sporting director Rouven Schroder said the Bundesliga side would only sell their prized asset for the right price.
“A forward who is fit again and has the perfect age is in demand despite the virus,” Schroder told Bild. “[If an outrageous offer comes in] we would then need to sit down and discuss it.
“We rejected something last winter and in summer, too.”
Leeds are also understood to be interested in Mateta, with Mainz looking for a considerable profit on the £7.2million they paid for him should he be sold.
The Elland Road club’s director of football, Victor Orta, is said to have been impressed by Mateta’s recent form, with the Yorkshire giants allegedly weighing up a January approach.
Mainz are unlikely to let Mateta leave, however, unless they receive a fee in the region of £30million.
