Crystal Palace are “pretty much in the loan market” despite links with Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, reporter Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Eagles are one of several teams to have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old in recent weeks after he entered the final six months of his current deal at the Stadium of Light.

Last month, Football Insider claimed that Sunderland had put a £10m price tag on Stewart, who is being monitored by a number of clubs in Scotland, the Premier League and the Championship.

The 6ft 2 ace is claimed to be “settled at Sunderland and wants to stay”, but talks over a new contract have stalled while other clubs are offering significantly higher wages.

Asked if Stewart is a genuine target for Palace manager Patrick Vieira, Jones revealed he believes the capital club would need to assess a move carefully.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “They seem quite established in the lending market, so it would be interesting if they really went after it.
“There are no big sums involved here, I don’t think, but the most important thing for Palace to assess is whether this will definitely solve the problems they already have in the side.”

Stewart fired Sunderland into promotion last season, registering an impressive 26 goals and five assists in 53 appearances, including a goal in the play-off final against Wycombe.
And the in-demand striker has maintained that form this time around, finding the back of the net on nine occasions in just 11 Championship outings, while also netting three times for his team-mates.
