Departure could be on the cards for 29y/o Hammers outcast

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini could leave the London Stadium this summer if his playing time does not improve significantly, according to Football.London reporter Jonty Coleman.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer and has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular over the past two seasons.

According to Fichajes.net [6 January]the Argentine was the subject of interest from River Plate, who were prepared to make a bid that would see him return to his homeland in January rather than wait until the summer when he will be free.

However, a move never materialized for the player. And his immediate future could be away from East London once the season ends in May.

According to Coleman, writing for Football.London [2 February] Lanzini has a two-year extension option on his expiring contract, but if he does not continue to play for the Hammers in the coming months, he could be on his way.

Coleman wrote: “Argentine midfielder Manuel Lanzini has found it very difficult to get playing time this season.

“Of his 15 appearances in all competitions this season, he has started ten games, but only one of those has come in the Premier League, with the South American well below par at present.

“Lanzini’s contract expires at the end of June and although, like Coufal, there is a two-year extension offer on his deal, unless his playing time improves significantly, an exit could be in the offing” .

time to go

It surprises some Hammers fans that Lanzini is still a West Ham United player. The 29-year-old has not featured in back-to-back games for the club for nearly two seasons.

With great attacking talent up front in West Ham’s squad, such as Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals, it is only fair that the midfielder is given a chance to leave.

It’s set to be another five months of action-packed action for the Argentine, which will take a heavy toll on his talents and skills. However, it may offer him some opportunity with the club still in the cup and in European competitions.

However, in what will be a major summer rebuild for the club, it will almost certainly be time for the player to leave and discover a new life elsewhere.
