West Brom striker Charlie Austin has snubbed a beat-the-deadline move to Derby County, Football Insider can reveal.
This site broke the news yesterday that Wayne Rooney has been in personal contact with the proven goalscorer in a bid to lure him to the east Midlands.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Austin has rejected the possibility of a move to Pride Park and is likely to remain at the Hawthorns past Friday’s transfer cut-off for domestic deals.
The Championship big guns are keen to strengthen their attack and set their sights on the 31-year-old.
Derby hoped Rooney’s connections and gravitas could help them persuade Austin to drop down a division.
But the move has failed and Phillip Cocu’s side will now have to look elsewhere.
