Everton news: Bent blames teammates for Kean flop

Darren Bent has suggested Everton failed to create enough opportunities for Moise Kean to showcase himself during his first season at Goodison Park.

The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has claimed the 20-year-old’s form on loan at Paris-Saint Germain has demonstrated he does have the ability to score regularly.

Kean, who joined the Toffees for a reported £27.5million fee from Juventus in 2019, scored just four goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season.

He has netted the same number of goals in just six games for PSG since he joined the French giants on a season-long loan.

Bent has admitted that sometimes players just fit into a certain type of system but suggested that Everton did not provide enough service for Kean to be a success.

Asked if he thought there was a reason behind Kean’s drastic improvement in form, Bent told Football Insider: “Come on, let’s be honest – he’s at PSG, they’re by far the best team in the French league.

“He’s playing with Neymar, Mbappe, Veratti – they always dominate every single year, they win it all the time, they dominate possession and the players that he’s playing with, they’ll always create opportunities.

“It’s just about him finishing it off. Maybe at times at Everton, he’s not played with that type of player. He’s played with good players but not the players they’ve got there at a team that’s so dominant in France.

“Sometimes some things fit and sometimes they don’t.”

Kean, who has eight caps under his belt for Italy, has started five times in his six appearances for PSG this season.

Three of those outings have come in the Champions League, against Manchester United, Istanbul Basaksehir and RB Leipzig.
