Medical Checks on the Horizon
Tim Iroegbunam, Aston Villa’s promising midfielder, is scheduled for a medical at Everton this Thursday as the Toffees prepare to finalize a significant transfer. The 20-year-old England U-20 international is on the verge of swapping Villa Park for Goodison Park.
Agreement Reached
After a successful bid was placed by Everton, a full agreement on personal terms and the transfer fee has been reached. The up-and-coming star is set to make his move in a deal reported to be worth around £10million, as Everton manager Sean Dyche aims to bolster his midfield options for the upcoming season.
A New Challenge Awaits
Iroegbunam, whose opportunities to shine at Aston Villa have been sparse, is expected to sign for Everton barring any unforeseen complications. Since his arrival at Villa from West Brom in 2021, the midfielder has struggled to secure a regular first-team spot.
Loan Spell Success
The 2022-23 season saw Iroegbunam on loan at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, where he demonstrated his potential with four goals and as many assists across 32 appearances. Despite playing 15 games for Unai Emery’s Villa last season, Iroegbunam was in the starting lineup for just two of those matches.
European Experience
The young midfielder has tasted European competition, featuring in both legs of Villa’s 4-0 aggregate victory over Ajax in the Europa Conference League. His performance in these fixtures had attracted interest from the Dutch club earlier in the year.
Villa’s Financial Motivations
Aston Villa’s willingness to part with Iroegbunam is influenced by financial considerations. The club is believed to be pushing the boundaries of permissible profit and sustainability (PSR) losses and reportedly needs to accumulate £60million from player sales this summer to balance the books.
