Former CEO Suggests Capacity Review Within Five Years
Keith Wyness, Everton’s former chief executive, has hinted that the club may consider a review of the seating capacity at their new stadium, Bramley-Moore Dock, within five years of its opening. Wyness, who held the CEO position at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, shared his insights during a recent episode of the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Revenue Considerations for Expansion
Wyness emphasized that the decision to potentially expand the stadium would heavily depend on revenue performance. With the Friedkin Group reportedly taking over the club, there are murmurs about increasing the size of the new ground, which boasts a price tag of £750 million and can currently accommodate 52,888 fans.
Expansion Possibilities on the East Side
According to reports, there is room for expansion on the east side of the stadium, contingent on “genuine demand.” Everton is set to make the move to their new home for the 2025-26 season, with test events scheduled for the upcoming year.
Scarcity Value: A Revenue Strategy
Wyness pointed out that the concept of “scarcity value” could play a significant role in maximizing revenue during the early years of the stadium’s legacy. He acknowledged the complexity of making capacity decisions, stating, “I think if there was a review of capacity, it would come maybe after five years in the new stadium.” He further noted, “There is also a thing about scarcity value which keeps the revenue at the top level.”
