Fans Face Reality of Limited Expansion
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has confirmed that the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock will maintain a capacity of around 53,000 for the foreseeable future. Speaking on a recent podcast, Wyness urged fans to accept the limitations of the site and focus on the positives of their new home.
Architect Confirms Space Constraints
During a discussion with the Everton Fan Advisory Board, stadium architect Dan Meis highlighted the challenges of expanding the facility, stating there simply isn’t enough room to accommodate a larger capacity. Wyness echoed these sentiments, noting that the aspirations for a 60,000-seat venue would be difficult to realise.
Time to Move On
Wyness emphasized the need for both Everton and its supporters to adapt to the situation. He remarked, “We’ve got to face the facts that we’ll have 53,000 in capacity for a long time.” While there may be minor additions in seating, he believes it’s time for everyone to embrace the new stadium and the revenue opportunities it presents.
Looking Ahead with Optimism
Despite the disappointment over the capacity, Wyness encouraged fans to appreciate the new ground, stating, “We’ve got a beautiful new stadium, so let’s make the best of the new ground as it is and enjoy the big new revenues it will bring.” The focus now shifts to maximising the potential of this modern facility.
