Fans think Jose Mourinho got in Bruno Fernandes’ head with cheeky comment from touchline during Tottenham vs Man Utd

FANS were convinced Jose Mourinho was getting in Bruno Fernandes’ head with a cheeky comment from the touchline… before the playmaker equalised.

The Tottenham boss was going up against his former side Manchester United for the second time since taking over in North London.

And it looked as though he was up to his usual tricks trying to play his mind games from his technical area on Friday night.

His target was fellow Portuguese Fernandes, who arrived from Sporting in January and was United’s standout player – as he has been since arriving – at White Hart Lane.

With 20 minutes to go in the game and Spurs leading 1-0, Fernandes walked past his countryman near the sideline.

And the TV cameras caught Mourinho clearly saying something to the Red Devils star, presumably in Portuguese, before breaking into his trademark wry smile.

There did not appear to be any response from Fernandes but fans watching on at home spotted it and were convinced Jose was trying his best to rattle his opponent.

One tweeted: “Mourinho trying to get in Bruno’s head looool.”

Another said: “Did Mourinho just talk s*** to bruno in Portuguese? Lmao!”

But while Mourinho may have been smiling, it was man-of-the-match Fernandes who had the last laugh.

Just ten minutes after the quick exchange, the playmaker equalised for Manchester United to earn a draw and maintain the four-point gap between the sides.

Paul Pogba bamboozled Eric Dier and the England man pushed his opponent – playing for the first time since Boxing Day – to the ground and Fernandes placed his penalty into the bottom corner.

United thought they had the perfect chance for a late winner when Jon Moss pointed to the spot again as Fernandes went down after contact with Dier.

But the VAR overturned the decision and both sides had to settle for a point – although Mourinho was not best pleased.

The Spurs boss said: “I’m unhappy with VAR not with ref for the first penalty. A referee in the game can make mistake, can give a cheap penalty. But the VAR is supposed to be there to do a job. So for the first penalty I was not unhappy with Moss, I’m unhappy with the VAR.

“But with the second penalty I’m unhappy with Moss because he didn’t give free kick on Serge Aurier, he let it go and then he gave a cheap penalty, a non-penalty. But in this case VAR gave the truth.”

“I liked the team attitude the team organisation, control, they were following the plan, being very solid, giving to United what they don’t like and really happy with that.

“But I am unhappy with the fact that I had no bench to react. With Lucas Moura and Dele Alli they would be on and then I would have more choice.

“United become more dominant because we were tired, we couldn’t press. So it was easier for them to build and we couldn’t be dangerous as we had no legs.”
