Five transfer targets for Xavi as Barcelona boss including Raheem Sterling from Man City and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger

XAVI has a massive task on his hands as he aims to drag Barcelona back to the summit of European football.

The Spanish side have looked a shadow of their former selves this season – desperately struggling in life after Lionel Messi.

Xavi will get down to work in the transfer market in January after replacing Ronald Koeman – but who will he target?

Nou Camp legend Xavi, 41, has been hired to replace Ronald Koeman – who was sacked last month – after an impressive spell at Al-Sadd.

Xavi’s team regularly found their goals popping up on Twitter, with fans lauding the Qatari giants mimicking Barcelona teams of the 2000s and 2010s with their incredible passing displays.

But in a stacked LaLiga, the former midfield maestro may find himself needed to delve into the transfer market to get his team up to scratch.

We take a look at who Xavi could look to bring to Barcelona in the 2022 transfer windows.

Raheem Sterling has long been on the radar of Barcelona and with Xavi keen on 4-3-3, the England man could be a perfect fit

THE England star, 26, has been reduced to a bit-part role at Manchester City this season, with arrival of Jack Grealish not helping his game time.

Sterling has since been linked with a move away from the Etihad.

And with Xavi itching to bolster his wide ranks in a bid to get the best out of his favoured 4-3-3 Sterling could be just the man.

The Three Lions star is keen on a move abroad, with Barcelona set to reignite their interest.

Antonio Rudiger is yet to sign a new contract at Chelsea and could walk away for free in the summer

XAVI could potentially land the German star for FREE in 2022.

The Chelsea ace, 28, is stalling on a new contract at Stamford Bridge with the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus striving to sign him.

Barcelona desperately need defensive reinforcements and Rudiger would be a good fit.

However, part of his reason for snubbing a new deal at the Blues is due to his frustration at not being one of the top earners at the club.

Barca are currently working under a salary cap with their finances in disarray.

And with Bayern and Co willing to offer around £400,000 a week, Xavi could be priced out of a deal.

Edinson Cavani could be tempted by a stint in Spain before retiring after slipping behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Man Utd pecking order

ANOTHER player set to move on a free in 2022 is Cavani.

The Uruguayan veteran, 34, signed a one-year extension on his original 12-month deal at Manchester United on the promise of being a star man at Old Trafford.

But following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Cavani has slipped into a back-up role and is unlikely to sign a new deal under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Having shone in Italy (Napoli), France (Paris Saint-Germain) and now England (Man Utd), Cavani could be tempted by his first spell in LaLiga.

And with Sergio Aguero ruled out for three months following a heart problem, Cavani could be the No1 man from January, should Barca decide to pay a small fee rather than wait for a free move in the summer.

Kingsley Coman is another winger potentially on the radar of Xavi at Barcelona

IN a 4-3-3, the winger roles are incredibly important – just think back to the days of Messi and Neymar at the Nou Camp.

Desperate to get Barcelona back to their best, Xavi could make a move for Bayern Munich outcast Coman.

The French winger, 25, has played ten seasons of senior football – and won the league title in every season, during spells at PSG, Juventus and now Bayern.

With Coman in need of a change of scenery, Barcelona could be just the place for him to strut his stuff.

Alexandre Lacazette could be an option for Barcelona amid their striker shortage

XAVI will be hunting for a striker in 2022 – with Lacazette linked with a move to Barcelona.

The Arsenal star, 30, joins Cavani on the shortlist with his contract also expiring at the end of the season.

Lacazette has started to work his way back into Mikel Arteta’s plans in recent weeks, but is still likely to quit the club next year.

Barca could opt to splash out in January for a cut-price fee as they fight to grab a European spot for next season.

Or they could negotiate pre-contract terms in January and bag him for nothing as early preparation for the 2022-23 season.
