Fulham beat West Brom to new signing after contract signed

West Brom have lost out to Fulham in the race to sign left-back Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic, Football Insider understands.

The 23-year-old signed a four-year contract with the newly-promoted London club last night after this site revealed on Monday he had started a medical.

A Fulham source has told Football Insider that the player has put the finishing touches to the £1.9million transfer to Craven Cottage and it will be announced imminently.

Robinson’s move to Fulham is a major blow to West Brom, who had hoped to strengthen at full-back by luring him from Wigan.

The two new Premier League clubs had been joined by Sheffield United and Newcastle United in the pursuit of the defender.

They had all tabled bids but the USA international made up his mind to head to west London.

Fulham have pounced for Robinson after Wigan’s relegation to the third tier triggered a clause in Robinson’s contract that means he is available for a cut-price fee this summer.

The defender had previously been set to join AC Milan in a deal worth up to £10 million in January, but the move fell through at the eleventh hour after an underlying health condition was found.

The left-back made 38 Championship appearances for the Latics last season.

He joined Everton as an 11-year-old but never made a senior appearance for the Toffees, and left Goodison Park on a permanent basis last summer.

In other news, the door has opened for Fulham to sign striker after Celtic bid.
