How Chelsea might line-up vs Villa on Sunday – Talk Chelsea

The mighty Chelsea are back in action this weekend, whether those words fill you with joy or despair!

But fear not, it’s just a friendly while Graham Potter and the boys are in warm weather Abu Dhabi training. We face Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Many of us were happy to have a break from watching Chelsea football, and that’s only natural given how our season has gone so far. On Sunday I’m pretty sure we’ll enjoy watching Chelsea play too, or at least I hope we do.

The result really shouldn’t matter, but the fun part will come from being able to see some/many of our exciting young rising stars play for the first team. Both teams are likely to have mixed lineups on Sunday.

Let’s take a look at a projected lineup now. Of course, it’s impossible to say whether Graham Potter will opt for a powerhouse squad, a squad full of academy boys or a mix of both, but I’m leaning more towards the latter.

Here is my (not favorite) Chelsea Xl vs Aston Villa prediction:

Chelsea Line Up V Villa Copy

This is based on injured players not coming back in (maybe some off the bench) and those who have been training so far. Obviously, as it’s a friendly, I expect to see a lot of changes and maybe even a different 11 for each side, that’s likely.

But this lineup offers some experience along with some of the best young talent, so I think we could see something like the above.

It would be good to see some of our injured players at the end get a small amount of minutes if they are ready, just to give them a bit of a burnout. But otherwise, I think we’ll see something like the above.

I hope Potter goes that route instead of filling our starting Xl with his more experienced players. Even though it’s a friendly, people will be more focused on the result as always, which it shouldn’t be at this point, especially with so many key players missing. This should be about match fitness and looking at some youngsters who could improve our squad right now.

It will be nice to see the boys back on the pitch to be honest, although I have enjoyed a much needed break!
