ARSENAL legend Ian Wright believes Bukayo Saka is right in stalling over a new contract as Arsenal look to tie the starlet down to a bumper deal.
The 18-year-old has just one year left on his deal at the Emirates, leading to speculation that he could leave in the summer, with Liverpool reportedly keen on signing him.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been struggling to get the England youth international to extend his stay at the club, despite Arsenal offering the youngster a five-year contract.
Saka excited fans last month after he posted a throwback picture of him during his academy days from the 2011/12 season.
Commenting on his situation, Wright has insisted that the player is right in holding out for a new deal as he reflected on Callum Hudson’s Odoi’s extension at Chelsea.
The Blues forward was rewarded with a £120,000-a-week contract – a huge 400 per cent increase from his previous wage packet.
And should Saka be offered the same wages, it would be 24 times more than what he is currently earning at Arsenal.
Speaking to Dazn about the exciting teenager, Wright said: “He’s right, him and his representatives, to hold out as best they can because he’s the future of the club.
“They cannot afford to let a player like this leave.
“When you look at what Callum Hudson-Odoi has done and he’s a year younger, the contract he signed, Saka’s representatives will be saying, ‘Why should I sign for any less?’
“I believe he will sign but I do think him and his reps are doing the right thing by dragging it out to get the best deal they can.
“Arsenal is the right place for him at the moment.”
