Jesse Lingard poised for Manchester United return AND new contract after impressive West Ham loan – but Hammers want permanent deal

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make a dramatic U-turn on Jesse Lingard following his return to form at West Ham.

The 28-year-old’s days at Old Trafford appeared to be over after he was sent out on loan to the London Stadium following two years of obscurity.

A Manchester United return is on the cards for Jesse Lingard

However, five goals and two assists in seven Premier League matches for the Hammers has reminded everyone of the ability Lingard possesses, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by his parent side.

The Sun claim United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been hugely impressed with Lingard’s performances, with the club now ready to offer him a new three-year deal.

Little more than a year remains on the England international’s current deal – and West Ham will be desperate to try and sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

It is understood the Hammers value Lingard between £15million and £20m, although United would want more than that.

Lingard, who has been at United since he was eight, recently earned his first England cap since the UEFA Nations League Finals in June 2019 during a thumping 5-0 win over San Marino.

Former Hammers winger Trevor Sinclair believes Lingard MUST be named in England’s Euro 2020 squad this summer and could even be a key player for Gareth Southgate in the tournament.

Speaking on Friday’s talkSPORT Breakfast, Sinclair said: “He could have sat at Manchester United and said ‘I should be playing, I’m fit but the gaffer is not giving me an opportunity’.

“He’s almost taken that decision away from Ole Gunnar Solskajer, gone out on loan, he knows David Moyes and probably had conversations and said ‘I want to play straight from the off, I’m ready, I’m fit and raring to go’.

“He’s gone in there, talk about hit the ground running and scored a worldie last weekend as well.

“He’s come in and taken that confidence, belief and anger – that performance last night, even though he didn’t score, was outstanding. He was up there for man of the match.

“He’s played himself into a position where he’s odds on to go.”
