Alex Bruce believes Leeds United will have to spend money “wisely” this summer, following reports the Whites have a transfer budget of £45million.
The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admitted the reported budget “doesn’t get you much” in today’s market.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Bielsa has a £45m budget to work with this summer, as he plots his side’s Premier League assault.
Bruce suggested the Leeds’ boss will want to go out and buy “proven Premier League” players but insist there will still be bargains to be had during the window.
“Listen, £45m is a lot of money isn’t it, but in today’s market it doesn’t get you much,” Bruce told Football Insider.
“You want to go and buy proven Premier League players, so we’ll just have to see.

“I’m sure there’s a few bargains out there, I can give you some examples of players that haven’t cost much who did really well in the Premier League. It’s just a case of using the money wisely.”
It appears that £1million of that will be spent on Wigan’s Joe Gelhardt after a bid was accepted and Football Insider understands that deal is all but done after personal terms were also agreed.
However, with a senior striker needed at Elland Road and defender Ben White highly to command a hefty fee, it looks like Bielsa may have to take a more prudent approach.
Leeds will be playing in the Premier League for the first time in 16 seasons next term, after securing the Championship title.
The Whites finished 10 points clear of nearest challengers West Bromwich Albion, this achievement saw Marcelo Bielsa crowned as the LMA Championship manager of the year.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED the Whites want to blow West Brom away for their sixth potential signing.
