Leeds United exclusive: Bent reacts to potential Gotts move to Hudds

Darren Bent claims leaving Leeds United to join Huddersfield on loan should a “no-brainer” for Robbie Gotts.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker believes the young midfielder would flourish playing first-team football under a manager that has worked with and believes in him.

Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed on Twitter that the 20-year-old could join former Leeds under-23 boss Carlos Corberan at the Terriers on loan this summer.

The Spanish coach left Elland Road to take on the manager’s role at Huddersfield in July after the departure of Danny Cowley.

Bent believes that Gotts would flourish playing under a manager who knows and trusts him and as such backs the move to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Bent told Football Insider: “Well listen, there’s nothing better than when you’ve got a manager that knows in you and believes in you – that’s half the battle.

“I always played my best football for managers that believed in me or wanted to sign me, George Burley when he gave me my debut, Alan Curbishley when he signed me for Charlton, Steve Bruce at Sunderland.

“When these managers really believe in you and want you to succeed at the football club, you run the extra mile for them. I think because he knows the manager and knows how much he rates him, that’s so important.

“I’m all for that, I think when you look at certain clubs, there might be a club that’s bigger or more established than a lesser club but if the lesser club has a manager that believes in you and really wants you, it’s a no-brainer – you go to the guy that really, really wants you.”

Gotts has played twice for the senior side at Elland Road but has featured regularly as an unused substitute for Marcelo Bielsa.

The youngster made his first Championship appearance back in June in a six-minute cameo against Cardiff.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the Whites are plotting a raid for a Rangers star.
