Leeds United news: Bielsa likes Kent but not top of list

Leeds United are keeping tabs on Rangers star Ryan Kent but he is not top of their summer shopping list, Football Insider understands.

The newly-promoted Premier League club came close to signing the former Liverpool man last summer but could not agree a deal before the Glasgow giants made him their second most expensive ever signing in a £7million transfer.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Marcelo Bielsa is a big admirer of Kent and has given the green light for him to be on their attacking player target list this window.

But there are “one or two” other forwards who are ahead of the 23-year-old in terms of the Argentine’s pecking order for bolstering his attack.

Leeds are in the market for at least one young and dynamic player who can create and score goals.

Bielsa has exacting requirements and wants someone who can fit into his team’s style of play and has the potential to improve and develop.

Kent predominantly plays on the left side of the attack at Rangers, whose system has a spearhead – usually Alfredo Morelos – complemented by left and right-sided ‘playmakers’ who often drift inside.

At Leeds, the first choice wide men for much of last season were Jack Harrison and Helder Costa.

Harrison re-signed last week on a third consecutive season-long loan from Man City, while Costa converted his loan from Wolves into a £15million permanent transfer last month.

Football Insider revealed earlier this year that Kent was once again in Leeds’ sights ahead of the summer window.

The Liverpool academy product has spent the last two seasons at Rangers and signed permanently after winning the Scottish young player of the year in his debut campaign.

In other Leeds United news, the club have agreed a blockbuster new deal and an announcement is imminent.
