Noel Whelan has claimed Said Benrahma “ticks all the boxes” for Leeds United after the attacker missed out on promotion with Brentford last night.
The former Whites and Coventry forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted that Marcelo Bielsa needs the 24-year-old with Pablo Hernandez at the backend of his playing career.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed last month that United would likely make a move for Benrahma this summer if Brentford failed to reach the Premier League.
A 2-1 loss to Fulham last night compounded Thomas Frank’s side to another season in the Championship and placed significant questions marks over the future of his players.
Benrahma‘s 46 appearances last season yielded a remarkable 17 goals and 10 assists.
When asked by Football Insider if Leeds should move quickly now that Brentford have missed out on promotion, Whelan said: “It would be a fantastic signing.

“There is no doubt about that and that is why Chelsea are looking at him as well.
“He has been a standout player in the Championship. A player that is a match-winner and we need somebody like that in the side.
“We have Pablo but now we are seeing his time on the field reduced to keep him fit and healthy. He is at the backend of his playing career. He needs some help.
“Benrahma fits the bill and ticks all the boxes. He creates, scores goals – he is exciting. A player that has that bit of something special that you need in a side.”
Football Insider has been told that it would take a fee of £20m for Brentford to part with the winger this summer.
He has two years remaining on his contract at Griffin Park.
