Leeds United news: Brown drops training reveal over Cook

Michael Brown insists that Lewis Cook is a Premier League quality player as Leeds United plot a move to re-sign the midfielder from Bournemouth.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Fulham star has lifted the lid on how impressed he was with the York-born talent when he broke into first-team training at Elland Road.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Whites are looking at bringing the 23-year-old back to West Yorkshire this summer as they prepare to swap divisions with Bournemouth.

It is understood the Cherries have placed a £15million asking price on Cook’s head after they signed him for £6million back in 2016.

Now Brown, who was in the senior Leeds side when Cook broke through the youth ranks at Elland Road, believes the midfielder needs to be playing top-flight football next season.

“I remember when Lewis came over to the first team, I was in one of the training ground sessions he first joined in,” Brown told Football Insider.

“I thought this kid’s got a little bit, he had some guile, he was confident, I remember texting him when he did his knee, I said keep going, we’re all there and he’s very level headed.

“He’s come back so he needs a run in the Premier League but he’s certainly Premier League quality. I just know he’s a good footballer, he loves football and you know he loves Leeds United.”

Cook played 85 times for Leeds after breaking through the youth ranks, the name number of appearances he has made for Bournemouth since his move.

He featured a total of 29 times last season after he came back from a ruptured cruciate ligament.
