Leeds United news: McLeish reveals Leeds weakness

Alex McLeish has questioned whether the Leeds United players will have the level of fitness required to play their pressing game throughout the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Rangers and Scotland manager believes the fitness levels of Leeds players will be the “big test” for the Whites.

The Yorkshire giants have got off to a flying start to life in the Premier League earning seven points from their first four games.

They have not lost a game since their 4-3 defeat to champions Liverpool on the opening day.

Their most recent result was an impressive 1-1 draw with four-times champions Manchester City.

McLeish told Football Insider“I think everything is rosy at the moment, they’ve adapted in the early stages.

“I’m sure along the way there’ll be one or two setbacks and that’s when we’ll be asking a different question about their Premier League experience.

“Then you may start to question and that might be the reason that’s happened.

“But it can be down to a number of things, the level of fitness, are the players going to be able to sustain the pressing that they do, the running that they do. That’s going to be the big test for Leeds.

“In the Championship although they played great football with a good pressing game you still have to battle really hard in the Championship, you can hardly predict a result in the Championship these days.”

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa famously likes to work with a small squad and has only added four senior players to the group that won last season’s Championship.

Brazilian winger Raphinha became the latest addition on deadline day and he joins record signing Rodrigo and defenders Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.
