Leeds United news: Mills reacts to £30m White offer

Danny Mills has argued that Leeds United will not be “held to ransom” in their ongoing pursuit of Ben White as he suggested he could end up costing £47million including transfer fee and wages.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Elland Road defender claimed that his old club will walk away from any deal for the Brighton centre-back if it starts to become too expensive.

The Whites have had a flurry of offers rejected for their top defender target after his outstanding season on loan at Elland Road.

Football Insider then revealed earlier in the week that Leeds had approached the Seagulls with an improved offer of around £30 million, but that too was knocked back by Graham Potter’s side.

And Mills has suggested that the Whites will be wary of paying over the odds for the player.

Speaking to Football Insider about Leeds’ improved bid for White, he said: “That’s the problem.

“Another £10 million, then a bit more wages, and suddenly it adds another £15 million to the deal. It becomes expensive.

“As good as he is, Leeds will have a cut off point. Marcelo Bielsa will have a cut off point. If it’s not sustainable, the club won’t be held to ransom, and therefore if the price goes too high they must have a B,C, and D option waiting in the wings.

“I’m sure he’d love to carry on playing in the Premier League for a team he just got promoted. But he’s a good player, and he will adapt no matter what.”

White enjoyed a breakout campaign during his loan spell with Leeds last season.

The centre-back established himself as an ever-present of Bielsa’s promotion-winning side, featuring in all 46 Championship matches and helping the Whites to 22 clean sheets in the process.

In other Leeds United news, a top pundit had tipped a Leeds player to reject a move to a Champions League side and will instead fight for his place.
