Leeds United news: Mills reacts to Phillips injury update

Danny Mills fears for Leeds United after it was confirmed that Kalvin Phillips would be sidelined for a number of weeks with a shoulder injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Whites and Manchester City defender said that it will be a “big blow” for the 24-year-old personally having just broken into the England team.

The centre-midfielder was initially ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury sustained in the 1-0 loss to Wolves on Monday.

However, as revealed by Football Insider the club are now optimistic that the midfielder may return after the next international break in mid-November, just a month away.

Phillips, who has played every single minute of Premier League action for Leeds so far this season, was lauded by Mills for his performances of late.

“The injury is an issue for Leeds,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a magnificent player. He has been absolutely outstanding of late and has got himself into the England side and that will likely rule him out of the next internationals.

“That would be a big blow for him personally. To get injured is disappointing for anybody but to get injured just as you are having a breakthrough.

“Leeds will survive but they would rather not.”

Speaking on Phillips’ injury ahead of the trip to Aston Villa on Friday, Bielsa said: “I didn’t have the definitive amount of time that Phillips was going to be out for.

“The one who will play in his place will be Pascal (Struijk).”

In other Leeds United news, Whelan has told Football Insider that Illan Meslier will be “absolutely gutted” ahead of trip to Villa Park.
