Leeds United news: Phillips suggests Sibley transfer plan

Leeds United should loan Louie Sibley back to Derby County this season if they complete a deal for the teenager before the domestic window shuts, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the England Under-20 international has a “big future” ahead of him but fears he would not get regular enough game time at Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that the Rams have slapped a £10million price tag on the midfielder who only celebrated his 19th Birthday last month.

Sibley made a big impact at Pride Park in the 2019/20 campaign and has contributed five goals and three assists in his 22 club appearances.

However, he be far from guaranteed a starting spot in Yorkshire with the likes of Mateusz Klich, Pablo Hernandez, Tyler Roberts, Rodrigo and Adam Forshaw at Marcelo Bielsa’s disposal.

Phillips suggested that a deal that saw Sibley loaned back to Derby could suit all parties.

“Sibley will turn out to be a great player,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a young kid with an exciting future.

“Does he go to Leeds and play every other game? I would rather him stay and play week in, week out.

“There could be a deal to be done where he is signed and then goes back to Derby on loan, I would not be adverse to that. The kid just needs to play football.”
