Noel Whelan has been left raving after it was confirmed that Ryan Edmondson has joined Aberdeen on loan from Leeds United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former striker, who played at both Elland Road and Pittodrie, believes the teenage hitman needs the experience of first-team football after impressing for the under-23s.
Leeds confirmed on Friday that the 19-year-old has joined the Scottish Premiership outfit on a temporary basis until January.

The centre-forward made his debut for the Dons less than 24 hours later as he came off the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Glasgow giants Rangers on Saturday.
Whelan insists that Edmondson has been wasted playing for Leeds’ reserves and that the move north of the border is a great deal for all parties.
Whelan told Football Insider: “He’s big, he’s strong, he’s fantastic in front of goal, he can hold the ball up – it would be a real challenge for him because it’s a little bit more physical up there than the Championship and the Premier League.

“He’s going to really man up there, I think it would do him the world of good, I think they’ve got a really good deal there getting Ryan Edmondson, I think it works fantastically well for both parties – player and the club – because I think he’ll do a really good job for Aberdeen.”
“He needs it now, under-23s is going to do nothing for him any more, it’s not going to improve him any more, he needs to get out and sample real football at a very good level. It will grow him into a man up there, it’s a lot more physical.”
Edmondson has played just twice for Leeds’ senior side since breaking through the youth ranks at Elland Road.
He has the likes of Sam Cosgrove, Curtis Main and Bruce Anderson to battle with for a place in Aberdeen’s side, although the former pair both missed the start of the season through injury.
