Noel Whelan has compared Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips’ ability to fit in and adapt to the England side to that of “the best players in the world”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds forward and boyhood Whites supporter says he is not surprised by the level of the midfielder’s performance at international level.
The 24-year-old made his Three Lions debut last month against Denmark and has already added two more caps to his name.
The most recent of those came against Belgium on Sunday night when Phillips replaced captain Jordan Henderson after 65 minutes at Wembley.
And Whelan believes the fact the Yorkshireman is being repeatedly selected by Gareth Southgate shows he is doing well.
“I don’t think it’s a surprise,” Whelan said of Phillips’ performance levels.
