Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to sign Divock Origi after it was reported that the club were interested in a move for the Liverpool striker this summer.
The former Whites and Coventry forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 25-year-old would be “prolific” at Elland Road given a run of games in the side.
The Mirror reported on Saturday that Leeds are plotting a swoop for the Belgium international as an alternative to Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.
Origi scored six goals in 42 appearances last term but featured predominantly as a substitute for the Premier League champions.
Aston Villa’s interest in the former Lille player has also been reported as clubs look to offer the centre-forward regular first team football in an attempt to lure him away from Anfield.
When asked by Football Insider if Origi would be a welcome addition at Elland Road, Whelan said: “There is no doubt about it – he would add quality.
