Leeds United to submit improved offer for McGurk to beat Spurs

Leeds United are submitting an improved offer for Wigan Athletic forward Sean McGurk as they look to sign another rising star, Football Insider can reveal.

The newly-promoted Premier League club completed the captures of 18-year-old pair Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh from Wigan and Fulham.

Now United are keen to push through the signing of McGurk, a 17-year-old winger who is also attacking interest from Tottenham.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leeds’ opening offer for McGurk of £30,000 was knocked back by Wigan.

The Yorkshire giants are expected to make a new formal move to swing the deal following the cash-strapped Lancashire outfit’s administration.

Leeds announced the signing from Wigan of striker Gelhardt last Monday after, as first revealed by Football Insider, he penned a four-year deal that afternoon.

They followed up with the capture of defender Drameh at the end of a busy week of transfer action.

Leeds have signed five players this window, although three were previously at the club on loan – Jack Harrison, Illan Meslier and Helder Costa – while Gelhardt and Drameh may start in the Under-23s set-up.

McGurk is a versatile youngster able to play in a variety of positions across the forward line.

He scored nine goals in the first half of last season for Wigan’s age-group sides and was a key player as they were crowned Under-18 Professional Development League North Champions.
