Liverpool boss Klopp admits Jadon Sancho would ‘look good in red shirt’ but concedes defeat in race for Man Utd target

JURGEN KLOPP believes Jadon Sancho “would look very good” in red but does not expect Liverpool to sign the Borussia Dortmund forward.

Many expect the Reds to enhance their frontline after winning the Premier League title but reported target Timo Werner has signed for Chelsea.

Klopp is not planning on bringing Sancho to Liverpool

And talk of Sancho entering the Anfield radar is certainly news to ex-Dortmund boss Klopp.

The German remarked to Bild: “A red jersey would look very good on Jadon.

“But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer.

“He is a very interesting player.

“If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all!”

Sancho has greatly impressed in the Bundesliga since leaving Manchester City three years ago, bagging 20 goals and 20 assists in a stunning 2019/20 campaign.

Manchester United are said to be the frontrunners in the race to bring the winger, 20, back to England.

A fee of £100million could be enough to seal his signature although the Red Devils’ ability to afford that may rest on their Champions League qualification hopes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Sebastian Kehl, a former Borussia captain and current player licensing chief at the club, has insisted his side are confident of holding off any interest.

He told SportBuzzer: “Jadon has a long-term contract. There are also no specific inquiries for him at the moment and no one knows how the transfer market will change amid the pandemic.

“We expect Jadon to play at Borussia next season and we would all be happy given the quality he gives our team and the difference he makes.”

Meanwhile, Klopp, 53, has admitted that he is not yet thinking about “major upheavals” in the summer market for Liverpool.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is one name strongly linked to the Merseyside outfit after they were beaten to Werner.

Klopp added: “This team doesn’t need a break.

“I cannot promise that we will dominate football from now on, nor do I know if it is time to talk about major upheavals.

“But I know that our goal is to keep the team’s tribe together. The boys are currently of a great football age.”
