Liverpool green light Wilson exit after huge payout revealed

Liverpool gave the green light for Harry Wilson to join Cardiff City after accepting a multi-million pound offer in fee and wages.

The Premier League giants announced at the 5pm cut-off yesterday for domestic deals that the 23-year-old had joined the Championship club.

It ended an intense scramble for the signature of the Wales international after Swansea City, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City all made moves to sign him in the short domestic window.

Wilson headed to Cardiff ahead of his other suitors after they agreed to meet the full cost of his £60,000-a-week wages for the season as well as pay Liverpool a £1million-plus loan fee.

The total cost of the deal is believed to be around £3.5m.

That was beyond many of Cardiff’s rivals, with Derby County and Nottingham Forest having  tabled offers but failing to agree a deal.

Neil Harris’ side will consider it a bargain if Wilson is able to play a central role in their bid for promotion back to the Premier League.

The attacking midfielder has an impressive record in the Championship after previous spells in the division at Derby County and Hull City.

He had hoped to secure a permanent move from Liverpool in the main window to a Premier League club.

However, a transfer to Burnley fell through when Clarets boss Sean Dyche pulled the plug after extensive talks.

The Premier League side had a bid of £12m for the winger rejected and they refused to meet Liverpool’s £15m valuation.

In other news, Liverpool have agreed the terms of a last-gasp central midfielder transfer.
