Kevin Phillips is adamant Xherdan Shaqiri will be “disappointed” not to have left Liverpool this summer.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England international suggested that the 29-year-old could still play a major role at Anfield this season.
It was expected that the Switzerland international would leave the Premier League champions before Monday’s deadline after Jurgen Klopp omitted him from the EFL Cup squad that lost to Arsenal last week.
However, a move failed to materialise and Shaqiri was subsequently named in the Reds Champions League squad for the 2020/21 campaign.
His 42 appearances for Liverpool, of which 23 have come as a substitute, have yielded eight goals and five assists.
When asked by Football Insider whether he expected Klopp to utilise the winger this season, Phillips said: “It is a tough one, Shaqiri.
