Liverpool’s Premier League coronation vs Chelsea to be shown for FREE by Sky Sports in bid to keep jubilant fans at home

LIVERPOOL’S Premier League coronation against Chelsea will be shown for FREE by Sky Sports in a bid to keep jubilant fans at home.

Jurgen Klopp’s side clinched their first league title in 30 years last month, with fans partying in the streets.

Liverpool vs Chelsea will be shown for free on Sky Sports in a bid to tempt fans into staying at home

With supporters unable to head to Anfield and officials fearful of another swarm flocking to the stadium, the match – and trophy presentation – will be broadcast by Sky for free.

Chelsea played a huge role in Liverpool’s title win – beating Manchester City 2-1 to confirm the Reds’ status as champions.

And now the Blues will be able to watch Jordan Henderson and Co lift their first-ever Premier League trophy.

The game at Anfield kicks off at 8.15pm on Wednesday July 22.

The match will be free to air on Sky Sports, with the long-overdue trophy presentation to follow immediately after.

Chiefs hope it will encourage fans to stay at home and watch rather than throw social distancing out the window with a party outside the Kop.

It has been confirmed Sir Kenny Dalglish – the last Liverpool boss to win a league title before Klopp – will present their championship medals.

Captain Henderson – who lifted the Champions League trophy last season – will then get his hands on the iconic Premier League trophy.

He will be the first Liverpool captain to lift the top-flight crown since Alan Hansen in 1990.

He and his team-mates will receive the trophy on a podium surrounded by banners made by fans that will be built in the middle of their famous Kop.

Liverpool have urged fans to “stay at home to enjoy the ceremony”.

Fans flocked to Anfield after Liverpool were crowned champions after Chelsea beat Man City 2-1

A statement said: “With supporters unable to attend the behind-closed-doors fixture, the historic occasion will involve a unique presentation designed to acknowledge and celebrate Liverpool fans.”

The comment came after thousands of fans gathered to celebrate after they were confirmed as champions, despite warnings not to.

Supporters also flocked to the city’s waterfront the next night, leading to criticism from both the club and Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson.
